Fall in New England can be cool and crisp, and, on this afternoon, Hunt Field would see some gusty wind as well. The Big Red knew they had to play smart and sharp to beat a hard-working Dexter side. The hosts began well by keeping the ball and using the width wisely. Just five minutes in a well-executed free kick from Matt Baptiste to the head of
Evers Saleeby went just over the bar. Dexter had their sole chance of the half and with space in the box and finished with a strong strike to put the visitors up 1 - 0. This is how the half would end.
The second half saw Dexter get the first chance and it was
Hunter Morton who was sharp off his line to smother the opportunity. Despite keeping the ball for much of the half, the Big Red struggled to get into dangerous areas for quality chances. With just over twenty minutes to play, a sublime back heel by Alex de Burgh Codrington sent
Noah Levy through the back line. Levy's clean strike went inches wide of the left post. As the half wore on SPS pressed and threw numbers forward. With four minutes to play, Dexter took advantage of a quick transition and finished for the second time that afternoon. It was a disappointing result for the Big Red who felt they were capable of a better performance.
SPS plays their final two Lakes Region games this coming week. On Wednesday, it will be Vermont Academy coming to Millville and next Saturday the side will close out the season hosting the Brewster Bobcats in our salute to our hardworking sixth form class.
