The girls team returned to the ice after a well-earned long winter respite and turned the heat up on the Huskies of New Hampton School. The Pelicans were excited to be back on the ice and got right to work against a talented New Hampton squad.
Marina Kane scored first on a pass from
Chandler Curtis. Ali Cabot, in her trademark move, brought the puck from one end to the other to go up 2-0 after five minutes of play.
Meg Bohan added a third goal which was quickly followed by a Callie Fortin goal with an
Emerson Bentley assist. The first period ended with a 4-0 lead for the Big Red. The second period started a little slower though
Parker Neilson, who was great all day in net, stopped a couple of New Hampton breakaways to keep the Huskies off the board. Halfway through the second, the SPS squad began another run of goals with
Gracen Arndt knocking in a rebound from an
Emerson Bentley shot. Emerson continued to help set up goals tallying her third assist with a nice pass to
Marina Kane who scored to extend the lead to 6-0.
Chandler Curtis scored late in the second followed by Alison Min who scored with no time left in the period to make it 8-0 after two full periods. New Hampton had several talented players who continued to battle as the Huskies scored their only goal of the game on a scrum in front to make it 8-1 at the beginning of the third the Pelicans continue to work hard as
Chandler Curtis added another goal on a wonderful pass play from Gracen to Marina to Chandler. Allegra Caracappa scored her second goal of the season on a slap shot from the top of the circle and Chandler added one more towards the end of the game. With this win, the girls continued to improve, and they look ahead to taking on the Cushing Penguins at home on Saturday.
