On a cloudy but comfortable Monday, April 21, St. Paul's School zoomed north to New Hampton for a 4:30 p.m. match. The Big Red's girls varsity tennis team won their second Lakes Region League match of the year 8-1 in just under two hours.
Clara Tcherepnin at #6 singles shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 while co-captain
Liz Harder '25 at #1 singles, Char Machiel '25 at #3 and Emery Gay '26 at #5 all let go of just one game each in their matches. At #2, co-captain
Poppy Duggal buckled down to finish 6-3, 6-1 while
Amelia Guest '25 at #4 had the reverse experience but locked in during her second set to come back from three down to finish 6-1, 6-3. In #7 singles (exhibition),
Lily Chibnik '28 cruised to an 8-1 victory.Â
Doubles play saw a new slate of SPS players take to the courts. In the top spot, Fourth Formers
Daisy Singer and
Ariadna Rubiralta Kunze teamed up to take on the Huskies' top two singles players, who prevailed for New Hampton's sole win of the day (8-4). Next door at #2, Sixth Formers
Logan Bensadoun and
Rhys Rountree came from behind, kept things even, then pulled away to finish 8-4. Rounding things out, Third Formers Didi Machiels and
Amelia Chun played with gusto to an 8-2 win.Â
