One week after their first practice session as a team, the Girls Varsity Tennis team hosted Phillips Exeter Academy's Varsity A team on Saturday, April 5, for a nearly four-hour match. It was the second outing of the season after sweeping Pingree on Wednesday.
At #1 singles, co-captain Liz Harder '25 dug deep to come back from 0-4 in the first set to win it 7-5, then staged another nail-biter of a comeback from 2-5 to win the second set in a tie breaker that clinched her match.
At #2, co-captain Poppy Duggal '25 made her opponent work for it and finished 4-6, 3-6.
Four-year varsity player Amelia Guest '25 at #3 and Ariadna Rubiralta Kunze '27 at #6 both posted 2-6, 1-6 scores.
Fifth Former Emery Gay at #4, had a strong first set and turned in a 4-6, 2-6 performance.
At #5, Clara Tcherepnin '26 had an even-keeled match at 3-6, 3-6.
In doubles play, Liz Harder and Poppy Duggal at #1 finished at 2-8; Amelia Guest and Naomi Mykoniatis'28 at #2 got on the board, 1-8; and Ariadna Rubiralta Kunze and Daisy Singer '27 at #3 went the deepest, with a 3-8 score.
The win went to Exeter, 8-1.
Next up: SPS travels to Northfield Mount Hermon on Wednesday, April 9, for a 2:30 p.m. match.
