We traveled to New Hampton School on Saturday with six guys to participate in the Lakes Region League Tournament. There were four separate mini tournaments, one for each of the following: #1 singles, #2 singles, #1 doubles, and #2 doubles. Each draw consisted of players from other Lakes Region Schools.
Max Robins, '28 played in the #1 singles tournament. In his first round match vs KUA's number one player, Max controlled the match well for an 8-1 win. His next match faced Tilton's number one and won 8-0. The number one singles finals was the last match of the day, with Max facing Vermont Academy's top player. The match was close initially, with players exchanging high level groundstroke rallies. Max stayed composed and turned up his level to win the Championship match 8-4.Alex Gallien, '27 represented us in the #2 singles tournament. On his way to becoming Champion, he defeated Vermont Academy, 8-1, Brewster, 8-1, and New Hampton, 8-1. It is no easy feat to only drop 3 games all tournament against some talented competition. Alex displayed his creativity and sportsmanship throughout these matches and represented St. Paul's well!
Hunter Morton, '26 and James Buchan, '27 proved to be the strongest #1 doubles team. Their road to the finals brought them against Proctor (8-0), then KUA (8-3), and finally New Hampton (8-2). These two played doubles at a high level throughout the regular season and continued throughout this tournament. Well done Hunter and James! Keijiro Hori, '26 and Peter Ding, '26, our #2 doubles team, had a ton of fun together on their road to becoming Champions. They got a bye in their first round match. The semi-final match pinned us against Brewter with KJ and Peter beating them 8-0. This win set up another New Hampton vs St. Paul's final, (all but one final today was NHS vs SPS). Peter and KJ looked experienced and relaxed on their way to becoming Champions.
This was the first time in our 6th Formers career, (Hunter, Peter, KJ) that we swept the tournament! What a way to finish their career with St. Paul's tennis and the 2026 season! Congratulations to our team!
