The Big Red Track and Field team traveled down to Western Massachusetts for a Saturday afternoon track meet against Deerfield and Choate. The midday rain parted just in time for the competition to commence, and the SPS athletes were able to secure top 2 performances in multiple events, including:
Girls: 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 300mh, 4x400m relay, Javelin, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump
Boys: 1500m, 3000m, 4x100m relay, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin
Notable performances include Iris Lamoreaux claiming victory in the Long Jump in tandem with a SB in the Javelin and PB in the 200m, Owen Gorenc leading a 1-2-3 SPS finish in the 1500m and coming back for a PB in the 3000m, Aedyn Kourakos pulling the double in the 1500m and 800m while leading 3 teammates to top 5 finishes in each event, Oliver Costello tossing a massive 20 foot PB in for 2nd place in Discus to pair with another silver in the Shot Put, C.C. Goss eclipsing 30 feet in the Triple Jump en route to victory alongside a 2nd place finish in the 1500m, Trey Miller launching a 15 foot PB in the Javelin to secure 2nd place, and Abbey Hafer winning the High Jump in 4'10" before dialing in a clutch anchor leg of the 4x400m relay, making up a 3 second deficit to claim victory.
Congratulations to the many Big Red athletes who claimed personal bests in our penultimate regular season meet. The SPS track and field team is back in action at home on Saturday, May 9th to celebrate our 6th formers. This will be the final tune-up prior to the NEPSTA championship meet on May 16th.
