The SPS Track and Field team hosted Cushing, Eaglebrook, KUA, Proctor, Vermont Academy, and Worcester for the final regular season meet of the season. The weather tried its best to dampen the mood of all competitors, but the downpour could do little to sully the celebration of our 6th form athletes. Despite the unwelcome conditions, Big Red T&F athletes won numerous events across both sides, including:
Girls: 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, Triple Jump
Boys: 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, Shot Put, Discus
Notable performances include the 4x100m relay team of Ciaran Oreilly, Hendrix Cayo, Will Carten, and Garrett Blake who showed that "B" team stood for "best" by holding off all challengers to win the event, Marielle Kothari dodging puddles as she eclipsed 30 feet en route to her win in the Triple Jump, Owen Gorenc clipping off another pair of victories in the 1500m and 3000m, Abbey Hafer claiming the win in the 200m in a 1-2-3 SPS finish, Isaiah Petryk-Orr leaning his way to victories in the 100m and 200m by a combined five-hundredths of a second, Aedyn Kourakos going wire to wire to win both the 1500m and 800m, Oliver Costello following up his PB and 1st place in Shot Put with another victory in Discus, Sarah Spencer and Scarlet Tien braving the conditions to eek out PBs in their respective 2nd place finishes in 800m and 200m, Charlie Harvey clicking off negative splits en route to his 800m victory, and Mack Barrette clinching the win in the 3000m in a personal best time.
Congratulations to all of the Big Red track and field athletes who ended their competitive season on Saturday–and a special congratulations to the sixth formers finishing off their T&F careers! Next on the docket is the New England (NEPSTA) championship meet at Choate on May 16th. Good luck to all competitors who will make the journey down to Connecticut in search of glory!
