On a windy afternoon in April, a new chapter in the storied history of St. Paul's School Athletics was written. The Big Red Golf team traveled to Brookline, Massachusetts and the Robert. T. Lynch Municipal golf course to take on the golfers from Dexter Southfield. At 3:30pm, senior captain and #1 golfer Patrick Cooley drove his ball down the first fairway in what marked the first shot of a varsity golf match in St. Paul's School history. Over the course of the afternoon, eight Big Red golfers etched their name in Pelican lore as the competitors in this school's first ever match.
 
On the course, the Big Red played well, competing against their opponents and the challenging weather conditions to force tight matches up and down the ladder. On a course they had never played before, many of the Big Red golfers kept matches in contention until the final two holes of each match, but ultimately, the golfers from Dexter proved too strong and earned an 8-0 victory over the Big Red.  While every member of the team fought well, third former Henry Gu was the Big Red Golfer of the Day. Henry trailed his opponent by 2 points heading into the 7^th hole. He won consecutive holes to tie the match overall and force a decisive ninth hole. Although Henry fell short in the ninth, he demonstrated great resilience to never give up in his match. 
 
This match proved a great learning opportunity to the St. Paul's golf team, as each player earned valuable matchday experiences that they can rely on throughout the remainder of the season. While the Big Red golfers are still looking for their first team match victory, they will not have to wait long for their next opportunity. SPS will quickly turn its attention towards the New Hampton School, as they prepare to host the Huskies at the first ever home match at the Concord Country Club on Saturday, April 19^th.
