Golf falls to Andover

On a beautiful Thursday afternoon, the SPS Golf team travelled to Massachusetts to take on the Big Blue of Andover. Facing one of the top ranked teams in New England, the Big Red played well, taking multiple matches to the final hole. However, the Big Red were unable to claim a point and lost on the day by a combined score of 12 – 0. In the first pairing, #1 Ryan shot the low round of the day with a two over par 38. His partner, #2 William shot 41and they lost both the individual and best-ball component of their matches, 2&1, 4&3, and 4&2, respectively. In the second round #3 James took his match to the final hole with a round of 39 but fell just short losing his match 1 down. #4 Callum shot a 44 and could not keep up with his opponent, losing 4&2. Combined, their best ball match also went the distance. but they lost 1 down as well. In the third pairing #5 Nolan and #6 Chay competed well with their opponents, shooting a 45 and 46. In both Nolan's match and the combined best ball match, SPS lost 2&1, with Chay falling to his Andover opponent in 5 holes. In the final grouping, #7 Sammy and #8 Paul had the most competitive pairings, but were ultimately unable to earn a point. Sammy lost to his opponent on the final hole, 1 down, while Paul's match and the combined best ball matchup resulted in a 2&1 loss. While SPS was unable to earn a point against one of the strongest teams in New England, they were only a few shots away from winning some of the matches and will bring forward lessons learned from facing this tough competition.
