Boys' Crew vs. Hanover High School

B6: SPS and Hanover got off the line cleanly, with both crews pushing for advantage.  For the first 750m neither crew could sustain a margin over the other, with the race staying very tight.  With 600m to go, SPS struggled with rhythm and bladework, losing speed and giving Hanover clear advantage.  Hanover capitalized on this, building on the lead for the final 400m of the race, finishing three lengths ahead of SPS

B5: both crews got off the line cleanly and got into a good race in the first 500m.  By 500m, SPS had pushed out to a deck-length lead.  In the middle 500m, both crews tried to take control of the race, but neither was able to change the margin substantially.  In the third 500m, both crews to pressed to the line, with Hanover closing the gap, but with SPS holding enough of a margin to win by about 1 seat in a closely contested race.

B4: both crews got off the line cleanly, with SPS taking the early lead.  SPS steadily built on this advantage, extending their lead through 500m, more through the middle 500m, and further in the final 500m.

B3: both crews started cleanly, with Hanover working aggressively to build a one length lead by 500m.  SPS tried to respond to this early push, but couldn't close the gap on Hanover in the middle 500m.  In the third 500m, SPS made an early push to close the gap, but Hanover responded strongly, extending their lead to clear water by the finish.

B2: both crews got out well, with SPS building a ¾ length lead by 500m.  in the middle 500m, SPS pushed to extend this lead, but Hanover responded well, and by 1000m had closed the gap to 1/3 length.  In the third 500m, Hanover pressed hard and SPS struggled to respond, with Hanover moving through to win by a deck.

B1: both crews started well with Hanover taking the early lead.  By 500m, SPS had closed the gap and the crews were again fairly even.  In the middle 500m, SPS took the lead early in the middle 500m, but  Hanover pressed again to stop the SPS move at about 1/3 length.  In the 3rd500m, first pressed out, building the margin to about ½ length, but Hanover responded well, closing the gap.  Both crews pressed hard to the line, with SPS winning by about 1 foot.

In all, the level of the racing was very good, showing the progress the crews have made this season.  In relatively good conditions (cool and overcast and relatively calm), all of the crews raced with intensity and for the most part, effectively.
